Here We Come Universal & WDW

Today's the day!  This afternoon, Eliot and I are traveling down to Orlando to soak up some sun, attend wizarding school at Universal with Harry Potter and have a magical visit with our favorite mouse and his friends!  We're on our way to Universal and Walt Disney World in a few hours!!!  Castles, and magic and trains, oh my!!!

If you see us, feel free to come say hi!  If you aren't visiting Harry Potter, the Minions and Mickey, you can still virtually follow along from the comfort of your own home:

If you aren't already, follow me on Facebook for pictures, posts and updates.  I'm also on Instagram as MyDisneyLifeBlog if you want to follow the photo fun there!  In the past, I've been more active on Instagram during our Disney trips.  I like to post a lot of photos "live" from the parks.  Don't have an Instagram account?  If you follow this link, you should be able to see all of my photos online.

I've also recently joined Periscope.  Periscope is a live video streaming app for both iPhone and Androids.  This allows the viewer to watch live video feed from anywhere in the world.  I've watched a lot of Disney parks footage since joining a few months ago.  I didn't get a chance to "scope" from Disneyland, but I'm going to try to from Walt Disney World.  If you'd like to follow along on Eliot's and my video adventures, download the app (iPhone or Android) and follow @MyDisneyLifeBlog.  The app will alert you when I'm live.  You will be able to watch my videos up to 24 hours after the live broadcast ends.  (Read more about Periscope here.)

I joined Snapchat before Disneyland but I couldn't figure out how to use it!  Elissa gave me a quick tutorial and I think I've got it figured out a little better.  I really want to use the awesome Walt Disney World location frames.  If you'd like to follow my story on Snapchat, my username there is melissajocady.

Stay tuned for lots of Universal and Walt Disney World photo and video spam over the next few days... See ya real soon friends!!!  ⚡️o-o⚡️ °o°

Fun Find: When Will Your Obsession Begin?

It's time for another Fun Find Friday!  Today, I'm sharing a special video that's near and dear to my heart.  It's called "When Will Your Obsession Begin?"

This is a video of myself and my fellow Key to the World travel agents in photos of our first trips to Disney.  We're obsessed with all things Disney- that's why we all became travel agents to help plan our clients' magical memory filled vacations!

It's a beautiful tribute to the magic of Disney and how it brings us together.  If you watch carefully, you'll see a familiar face around the 2:10 mark.  Enjoy!  °o°

Universal 2015 Trip Bucket List

I can't believe we're leaving for Universal in two days!!!  I'm so excited to see my fellow Key to the World travel agent friends again!  KeyCon 2014 was amazing and I can't wait to see what KeyCon 2015 has in store for us!!!

Of course, that means it's time to get my trip bucket list in order.  This is actually the one year anniversary of me starting my bucket lists!  I originally started to make them for my October 2014 KeyCon trip.  I was traveling alone and I wanted to give myself goals for the trip.  I had such a good time with the list, that I've made one for every Disney trip I've taken since then. (Here's the links for our January 2015 WDW trip and for our recent Disneyland trip during the Diamond Celebration.)

Yes, this isn't a "Disney" trip for the first half, but I'm also a huge Harry Potter fan.  I haven't seen the new Harry Potter Diagon Alley section and there's a ton of things I want to experience there.  Here are my goals for the Universal portion of our trip:

⚡️ 1.) Learn More About Universal Resort
⚡️ 2.) Meet New KTTW Travel Agent Friends
⚡️ 3.) See the Dragon Breathe Fire in Diagon Alley
⚡️ 4.) Ride the Hogwarts Express
⚡️ 5.) Go to the Hard Rock Hotel Pool Bar
⚡️ 6.) Go to Ollivander's Wand Shop
⚡️ 7.) Get Butter Beer in Souvenir Cup
⚡️ 8.) Wear my new Happily Ever Hatter Harry Potter IllusionEars
⚡️ 9.) Try Butterbeer Ice Cream
⚡️ 10.) See Kreacher at 12 Grimmauld Place
⚡️ 11.) Exchange Money at Gringotts Bank
⚡️ 12.) Dial 62442 (MAGIC) in the phone booth outside King’s Cross
⚡️ 13.) Explore City Walk
⚡️ 14.) Get a Margarita at MargaritaVille
⚡️ 15.) Mail a postcard from the Hogsmeade Owlry
⚡️ 16.) See Knockturn Alley
⚡️ 17.) Order Ice Cream at Florean Fortescues
⚡️ 18.) Get an Interactive Wand
⚡️ 19.) Explore the Wizarding Shops of Diagon Alley
⚡️ 20.) Get a picture with the Minions

I think it's going to be an amazing trip!  I'm so excited!  And stay tuned... I'll be posting my Walt Disney World Bucket List in the next few days! ⚡️o-o⚡️

Results- Diamond Celebration Bucket List

As you've probably figured out by now, I was pretty impressed with Disneyland's 60th Anniversary Diamond Celebration.  Not only was a dazzled, but I was also able to do most of the things on my bucket list!  Here are the final results.:

Melissa's Disneyland Diamond Celebration Bucket List:

°o° Watch the Paint the Night Parade
This was my absolute favorite of all the new nighttimes shows.  I loved the catchy music, dancing lights, amazing costumes and the intricate design of the floats.  "I gotta know, my friends, when can we do this again?"

°o° See the World of Color (also my first time seeing World of Color)
World of Color "Celebrate" was spectacular.  I saw it twice this trip and I can't wait to go again.  Next time, Eliot and I might even do a dining package so we get better seats!

°o° Watch Disneyland Forever (at the Castle, Main Street and Small World)
The Disneyland Forever fireworks and projection show was incredible.  Eliot and I ended up seeing it four times from inside of Disneyland- twice at Fantasmic, once on Main Street and once from It's A Small World.  We also could see the fireworks from our hotel and from California Adventure!  The show was amazing!

°o° Take Pictures at the Diamond Celebration Photo Stops
Disneyland had three photos spots and California Adventure had three as well.  In the end, Eliot and I took pictures at the Grizzly Peak, Haunted Mansion and Thunder Mountain Railroad photos spots.  We missed the California Screamin', Matterhorn and Bugs Land spots.  Next trip, we're going to try to get photos at all of them!

°o° Buy Mickey and Minnie Diamond Celebration Candy Apples
This was one of the last things I did at Disneyland.  I wanted to get them all week but in the end, it made more sense to buy them and bring them home.  They give you cheap plastic knives to cut them, and why attempt that when I can use my beast of a chopping knife at home?

°o° Get a Picture with Mickey and Minnie in Diamond Celebration Outfits
This almost didn't happen.  Thanks to a wonderful cast member named Jamie, we were able to accomplish this.  We'd been trying to see Mickey and Minnie together in their diamond celebration outfits all week and this was (literally) one of the last things we did.  I'll post more about it in my daily recaps, but I want to give a shout out to cast member Jamie for her kindness and compassion!  Mickey and Minnie loved our custom Happily Ever Hatter ear hats and I'm so happy we got photos with them!

°o° Wear My 60th Anniversary Outfit
It was so hot and humid during our trip.  (A tropical storm came up from Mexico and it was in the 90's and humid.)  We had planned for hot with dry heat.  I hadn't worn my new red dress yet, and I was terrified that I'd fry in the fabric.  I was going to change into it, but we were such a hot mess anyways that I decided it wasn't worth it.  Eliot didn't really have an outfit to match either.  This is on the bucket list for next trip!

°o° Take Photos of the Diamond Celebration Decorations
Disneyland switched over to Halloween decor early in our trip.  I didn't get as many Diamond Celebration decoration photos as I would have liked, but I did get plenty of the castle.  I also got some with the Halloween decorations.  Next trip, I'll get more!

°o° Order a Drink with Diamond a Glow Cube
As I mentioned the other day, we weren't able to go to the Cove Bar, so my diamond glow cube dreams were dashed.  This is happening next trip!  Must get glow cube!!!

°o° Buy Mickey and Minnie Diamond Celebration Cake Pops
This was also a last stop on our trip.  I was only able to get a Mickey cake pop to bring home since Minnie always sold out really fast!  It was delicious though!

°o° Collect the 60th Anniversary Pressed Coins
This became Eliot's pet project.  We set out to get only the 60th pressed coins and then decided to try for all of the coins.  We did pretty well overall.  We only missed a few spots at the hotels or at machines that were temporarily broken or being repaired.

°o° Wear My New 60th Anniversary Happily Ever Hatter Designs
I wore my Disneyland 60th IllusionEars a few times during the trip.  Everyone loved them and said Disney should have been selling a set like mine.  (Obviously I'm biased, but mine were way nicer looking than the diamond ears hundreds of girls were wearing... and mine only cost a few dollars more!)  Eliot and I also wore our new Mickey and Minnie Diamond Celebration ear hats on the last day.  Most guests didn't "get it" but the cast members had high praise for my designs.  Mickey, Minnie and Oswald also thought the were the bees knees.

°o° Get a Picture with Goofy in Diamond Celebration Outfit
We weren't able to get in line for a picture with Goofy before his line closed.  We did get to give him a high five though!  Next trip!

°o° Purchase Diamond Celebration Merchandise
Eliot and I really behaved ourselves this trip.  I bought a few Diamond Celebration items, but I didn't go crazy.  Eliot's Mom lives near Disneyland, so the idea that she can always run over to grab something makes it less daunting.  We didn't get the shirts we wanted to get, but we'll be sure to get them eventually.

°o° Be Dazzled by Disneyland's Diamond Celebration
Disneyland's Diamond Celebration definitely dazzled me.  Sleeping Beauty Castle was stunning both day and night.  During the day, it shimmered in the sunlight.  At night, it literally sparkled when it was all lit up.  The nighttime shows were incredible.  Disney did a fantastic job celebrating Disneyland's 60th birthday.  And I can't lie- it makes me really excited to see what's in store for Walt Disney World's 50th a few years from now!

We also had an experience I wasn't expecting:

°o° Picture with Donald in Diamond Celebration Outfit
I didn't realize all of the characters were in their diamond outfits at the beginning of each Disneyland day!  Eliot and I got a photo op with Donald one morning.  You could also get pictures with Daisy, Pluto, Chip and Dale in their special Diamond Celebration outfits!  There's a few more things to add to next trip's bucket list!

As you can see, we did a pretty good job with this bucket list!  We've got a few things to add to next trip, but that only makes me more excited to go back to Disneyland for more Diamond Celebration magic!  Plus, today it was officially announced that the Diamond Celebration will continue until September of 2016!!!  Woo-hoo!!!  °o°

Results- Disneyland 2015 Trip Bucket List

As you know, Eliot and I are back from our Disneyland trip!  I had a great time being dazzled by the Diamond Anniversary magic.  (More on that in a few days...)  Spending a week and a half at Disneyland was awesome and we did pretty good with my trip bucket list!  We didn't get to do everything, but I checked off a good portion of my goals.  We also experienced a few things we weren't planning to!  Here are the results:

Melissa's Disneyland 2015 Trip Bucket List:

°o° Watch Eliot run the 10K and Half Marathon
Eliot was able to complete the Dumbo Double Dare.  I on the other hand, was not able to get out of bed to watch the 10K.  Eliot and I decided that he'd be done early enough in the day that it wasn't worth me going to watch.  My body clock was all off.  However, I did go watch him and his Dad, Rick, cross the finish line at the half marathon.

°o° Eat a Tigger Tail, Dole Whip, Mickey Bar, etc.
I was able to get quite a few snacks this trip.  In fact, I've never bought more Disney snacks than I did this trip.  I had a Tigger tail, a marshmallow pumpkin stick, a few cookie ice cream sandwiches, a dole whip, a "Mickey Pants" sundae, and I brought a cake pop and two candy apples home with me.  Don't judge- I walked a lot!  (Hehe.)

°o° Have a Date Night with Eliot
Eliot and I had a few date nights alone at Disneyland.  It was fun to hang out and spend some quality time together at the Happiest Place on Earth!

°o° Watch Fantasmic, the Aladdin Musical and Pixar Play Parade again
I got to see all of these shows!  In fact, I saw Fantasmic twice, Aladdin three times and the Pixar Play Parade twice as well!  During our visit, Disney announced that Aladdin is going to be retired in January 2016 to make room for a Frozen musical.  Ironically, Eliot and I actually saw the show that day.  It's too bad, because it's a great show.  I'm really thankful I was able to see it a few more times before it's gone for good.

°o° See Soundsational Parade for the first time
Eliot and I watched this one afternoon and I'm glad we did.  It's definitely not the Festival of Fantasy, but I did enjoy it.  The costumes were really cute and the floats were pretty cool.  The music is definitely catchy, which is the point of the parade!

°o° See Mickey and the Magical Map for the first time
I was lucky enough to see this show three times during our trip!  As you can gather, I really enjoyed it!  The music was so catchy and the storyline was really cute.  I loved the set design as well.

°o° Meet Tinker Bell and the Fairies in Pixie Hollow
We were planning to get over to meet Tink, but by the end of the trip, we simply ran out of time and had higher priorities.  And truthfully, the main thing I wanted to see in Pixie Hollow was the beautiful rainbow waterfall all lit up at night.  We did pass at night and it wasn't running.  So I wouldn't have see it anyways.

°o° Ride in the front of the Monorail
Eliot and I tried to do this, but the weather was so hot during our trip that Disneyland wasn't even running the monorail most of the time we were there.  We got to ride in the monorail the last night of our trip, but they wouldn't let us in the front because there's no air-conditioning.  We'll try to do this next time!

°o° Eat at Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney
Eliot and I had dinner with Eliot's Mom one night while we were at Disneyland.  This Rainforest Cafe is two levels and the outside landscaping is awesome.  There's a huge waterfall on the back side of the building.  The food was great and we did get glowy drinks there.  They also gave us free cupcakes for our wedding anniversary!

°o° Visit Mickey and Minnie's Houses in Toontown
We were able to visit Mickey's House without waiting in line to meet Mickey, but you had to stand in line to get into Minnie's House.  We decided it wasn't worth it to wait in line when I just wanted to see her house.  I miss the houses in WDW's Toontown.  At least I was able to see Mickey's House!  I even found a hidden Mickey there!

°o° Go to the Animation Academy
Eliot and I did two character drawings at the Animation Academy on our last day at the parks.  They were doing Steamboat Minnie and Steamboat Mickey back to back, so it seemed appropriate to do both!  I'm glad we got to do it together.  His drawings turned out a lot better than he thought they would.  It was a lot of fun.

°o° See Cars Land and go on Radiator Springs Racers
I was able to see Cars Land, but I wasn't able to get onto Radiator Springs Racers this particular trip.  We had FastPasses for our last day, but we were trying to finish up a few things over at Disneyland and ended up deciding to pass.  I'm looking forward to doing it next time!  However, I was able to see Cars Land lit up at night and that was my main goal.  It's stunning at nighttime.  It's like you're walking through the movie!

°o° Meet Olaf and Oswald
Eliot and I were able to meet both Olaf and Oswald!  We met Olaf one morning when we both wore our Olaf outfits.  Oswald wasn't there a few of the days we tried to look for him.  Thankfully, Oswald was there our last day and Eliot and I met him!  We had a great interaction with both characters.  Olaf loved my ears, shirt and button.  Oswald saw our Mickey and Minnie Diamond Celebration hats and he kept pointing at them.

°o° Explore the Disneyland Resorts
I'm going to count this even though we didn't get to explore as much as I hoped.  We were in the Disneyland Hotel for the RunDisney Race Expo.  Then, our last day we went to the Grand Californian Hotel to get a few of the pressed coins.  I saw a lot of the hotels, but didn't really get to explore too much.  I'll try to more next time!

°o° Ride Haunted Mansion- see Hatbox Ghost and NBC Overlay
I'm so glad I did this!  Eliot and I were able to get FassPasses twice after the Haunted Mansion re-opened toward the end of our trip.  The line was so long to get in!  I loved seeing the Nightmare Before Christmas decorations, even though I'm not a huge fan of the movie.  There was so much to look at!  The music was also completely different.  I even found a hidden Mickey the second time we rode it!  I was so overwhelmed by everything to look at that I almost missed "Hatty".  Thankfully, Eliot reminded me and I got a good look at the Hatbox Ghost.  It was so cool!

°o° Go to the Mad T Party
We didn't have time to go to the Mad T Party with all of the nighttime shows we were trying to get to.  We were there one night really early for it, but it's not the same when it's still light outside.  This is definitely on my bucket list for next trip!

°o° Get drinks at the Cove Bar
Eliot and I made a valiant effort to go to the Cove Bar.  We even got in line one night but we ended up leaving after realizing it might jeopardize our World of Color viewing location.  This is on the bucket list for next trip too.  I want my glowy drink!

°o° Take pictures of the Halloween Decorations
It was so much fun to see Disneyland decorated for Halloween.  The blue Diamond Celebration banners magically disappeared overnight one night and Halloween was everywhere the next morning.  I've seen the Halloween and Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World, so it was a treat to finally see some at Disneyland!

°o° Go to Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar
Eliot and I didn't even get to think about going here.  Next time hopefully!

°o° Get dining reservations for a nice meal with Eliot
Eliot and I are big fans of breakfast, so I made us reservations at the Plaza Inn in Disneyland.  (It's basically the equivalent of Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom.)  The best part, was the wide variety of characters.  The meal is advertised as breakfast with "Minnie and Friends" and the characters change daily.  In fact, we had such a good time, we convinced Elissa and Rick to go again with us over the weekend.

We also had a few experiences I wasn't expecting:

°o° Meet Other Characters
As I mentioned above, the Plaza Inn had many characters at breakfast.  I assumed we'd be able to meet the usual- Minnie, Chip, Dale, Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore... but what I wasn't expecting was the others!  We also met Fairy Godmother, Captain Hook, Pearla and Suzy (Cinderella's mice friends), Max (Goofy's son) and Pinocchio!!!  I didn't even realize that most of those were meetable characters!  It was really great!

°o° Go to Disney's Soda Fountain and Hollywood
Eliot actually had a work expo conference on Friday while we were in California.  I drove him up and the soda fountain was in between Pasadena and Disneyland on the way home.  Eliot and I decided to swing by.  We both ordered a Pin Lovers Delight and got limited edition Disney pins with our ice cream!  It was really cool to see it and the El Capitan Theater that Disney uses for a lot of it's movie premieres!

°o° See Hollywood Sign and Stars on the Walk of Fame
While Eliot and I were on our soda fountain excursion, we weren't expecting to see the Hollywood sign off in the distance.  We also weren't expecting to see any of the stars on the Walk of Fame- but we did both!  Eliot grew up in California, however, he'd never seen them, so that was cool.  We also got to take pictures of a few of the stars!

°o° Meet Jeff Galloway
Eliot and I were able to meet Jeff Galloway at the RunDisney Expo.  We were one booth over when I spotted him.  We only got a chance to say hi and take a quick picture, but he was really friendly and he told us to have a great race weekend.

°o° Meet Dave Avanzino
I've been telling Eliot for months how much I love Dave Avanzino's Disney art.  He's one of the my favorite Disney artists and I absolutely love his shadowboxes.  He was scheduled to be at Disneyland the last two days of our trip.  It honestly slipped my mind in the last minute rush, but Eliot reminded me when he called and told me to come to the Disneyana art store right before we left for the airport.  Dave was there and he signed the Christmas Sleeping Beauty Castle print that I fell in love with earlier in the week.  It was so nice to say hello and to tell him how much I enjoy his artwork!

°o° Ride "Jingles"
We were in Fantasyland one afternoon and the line for King Arthur's Carrousel wasn't very long so we decided to hop on.  I told Elissa, Sara and Eliot that I wanted to ride the "Jingles" horse I'd heard about.  We spotted Jingles while watching the group before us ride.  When the music stopped and we were able to board, I went straight to Jingles and got to ride her!  She was dedicated to Julie Andrews in 2008 and has Mary Poppins designs painted on her saddle.  Jingles is also the "lead horse" and was Walt's favorite.  Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious started playing while I was riding Jingles and it was like I was a little kid all over again.  It was pure Disney magic.

As you can see, while we didn't accomplish everything on my trip bucket list, we were able to do quite a bit of it!  I feel like I did the things I really wanted to do.  It was also cool to get pictures with characters I didn't know you could still meet, and to meet Jeff and Dave!  We also had a blast during our soda fountain excursion and we'd like to see more of Hollywood in the future.  I'd say this trip was a success!  °o°
