Mother's Day 2023

Happy Mother's Day to all of the Moms out there!

Eliot and I are having a fairly lowkey day.  Originally, we were supposed to be meeting up with my family today, but our plans changed about a week ago.  Mom and Dad were down in Portland for a doctor's appointment that my Mom had last Monday.  So on Sunday, she and Dad came out to our house for a few hours to get an idea of some of the home projects that we needed help with.

While they were here, Mom decided that it didn't make sense to meet up this weekend since they just saw us.  My Dad also has to have cataract surgery tomorrow, so she didn't want him to have to travel too far before that.  Plus, my brother Jeremy is home with them to help Dad after his appointment... so she still gets to spend time with one of her kids on Mother's Day!  (I'm sure they'll be watching the Celtics this afternoon!)

Instead, Eliot and I decided to catch a Portland Sea Dogs game!  It's been a few weeks since our first one of the season, and I'm sure that it will be much warmer today at 64°- and it's also an afternoon game so the sun will be out!

After the game is over, Eliot and I are going to meet up with Joan, one of my local blog followers.  She has a few things that she graciously wanted to give me so we're going to meet up at the Portland Mall.  I'm so excited to see her in person again.

Then, Eliot and I have a few errands to run while we're in town, so we'll probably go out to dinner and do a little bit of shopping before heading home!

Our Mother's Day isn't anything too crazy, but I'm sure it will be a nice day!

I hope that all of you Moms... including the Dog Moms, Cat Moms, Plant Moms, Trying to be a Moms, Grieving Moms, and people missing your Moms, have a wonderful day filled with love- even if it's a rough one.  (It's our first Mother's Day without Nana so I'm sure it's going to be a little rough.)  I'm sending all of you hugs and my love.  °o°

Father's Day 2022

Happy Father's Day!!!  Much like Mother's Day, Eliot and I are celebrating Father's Day from afar.  However, we were able to see my Mom and Dad briefly on Friday when they were on their way through town.  Plus, we saw them over Memorial Day weekend and we'll be heading up to Trenton again for the 4th of July in a few weeks.  We were able to see Eliot's Dad back in March while we were in California, and we will probably be seeing his family again when we go out for the D23 Expo in September!

I've still got a few tricks up my sleeve for today though.  A few weeks ago, I bought myself some new San Jose Sharks and New England Patriots gear during JCPenney's sports shop sale.  It's the only time when I can get some of the stuff (like jerseys) on sale since the normal websites don't usually put them on sale.  Thus, I usually indulge a little bit.  I happened to find something that I thought Eliot might enjoy, so I bought him a present from me and our "donkey" children.  It's not much, but I thought these "#1 Dad" San Jose Sharks socks were too cute to pass up!  And he loved them!

Happy Father's Day to our Dads, and to all of the other Dads out there as well!

We hope you have a wonderful day!!!  °o°

Mother's Day 2022

Happy Mother's Day!!!  Today, Eliot and I are celebrating our Moms from afar.

Since we saw my family last weekend, we decided to wait until Memorial Day weekend to celebrate Mother's Day.  (We're planning to head up to Trenton and Bar Harbor for the weekend.)  Plus, Dad's birthday and Eliot's birthday are right after that... so we'll be celebrating them and making up for Nana and Mom's birthdays back in April!

I still wanted to take a minute to acknowledge our Moms today though.  Eliot and I have been lucky to see both of them a bit more the past few months than we had been able to in 2020 and 2021.  We would have loved to spend today with them, but I'm also perfectly happy to stay home resting up after a busy week

Happy Mother's Day to the Moms out there!  I hope you have a wonderful day!!!  °o°

4th of July Weekend 2021

Hello friends!  I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend!  Ours was a little bit jumbled up, but it was still wonderful!  And I was so happy to be home for it this year!

Our holiday weekend actually got off to a bit of a late start.  Eliot and I were supposed to drive up to Trenton on Friday evening.  But when 8:00 pm came and went with no end of our to do list in sight, I called my Mom to tell her that we'd be staying home for one more night.  There wasn't any reason to feel stressed and rushed finishing up orders and packing.  If we left at 10 pm (if we were lucky) we'd be getting there around 1:30 and by the time we went to bed, we'd be sleeping in and waking up just to rush to the Ellsworth post office before noon.  My Mom agreed at my assessment.

It made more sense to take our time finishing everything, go to bed at a reasonable time, and then to get up early.  (We'd still arrive in Trenton about the same time that we'd be getting ready to do something Saturday anyways!)  So Eliot and I did just that- we stayed up a little later than I'd hoped to, but we got all of our orders finished, packaged, and ready to mail.  Then we packed our weekend bags and went to bed.

Saturday morning, we got up early and sealed the last ear order.  Then, Eliot took all of the packages to the post office while I was in the shower.  He returned home and surprised me with a breakfast sandwich from Dunkin Donuts.  Then, he took a quick shower, we packed everything into the Jeep, and we were on our way!

I wasn't feeling great so Eliot volunteered to drive.  We talked most of the trip, though my eyelids started to droop once we got closer to Augusta.  Eliot pulled off at the Augusta Walmart to stretch and use the bathroom.  Then, we went over to the Barnes and Noble to poke around for a few minutes.  It was good to get out and stretch.  Plus, I found some cool Disney board games that I'd never seen before!  Then, we got back on the road and stopped again at the Walmart in Brewer.

Once we got to Ellsworth, we went to the drive through at Dairy Queen.  Both Eliot and I really wanted to stop since it has the full "grill and chill" menu.  We both got burgers and cheese curds (fried mozzarella balls).  Then, we made our way down the road to my parents house... arriving around 4:00 pm.

I had grand plans to do something Saturday evening, but the weather was starting to turn and after our drive up, I didn't feel like doing much.  Instead, we hung out at home and caught up with my family.  Mom and I made pasta salad for Nana and Jeremy's dinner, and Mom, Dad and I all got lobsters from the local lobster pound.  (Eliot was still stuffed from eating most of the cheese curds).  We watched a basketball game that Jeremy wanted to see.  Then, we all went to bed early since we had to get an early start for the 4th of July parade the next morning.

Sunday morning, I woke at 7:00 to the sound of my alarm clock and water rushing.  For a minute, I thought Jeremy might be in the shower, but to my dismay, I realized it was rain.  It was pouring out.  I laid in bed for a little bit not wanting to move.  Eventually, I got up and checked the Bar Harbor chamber of commerce website... the parade was still on but the fireworks were postponed to Monday night.

Jeremy was still in bed, so I took a shower.  Then, I got Eliot up and moving.  After we'd all gotten ready, we weren't far behind Mom, Dad and Nana who all also slept in later than they planned to.  (They should have been in Bar Harbor early before we even got up.)  We headed in a few minutes behind them and luckily, we got the parking spot that they park in every year right in the front of my grandparents old store.  (I think Papa, Grammie and Grammie were all looking out for us and sending us a sign.)

Mom and Dad were standing there on the sidewalk so Dad tried to help me parallel park at the weird angle.  I ended up having him jump in and park the Jeep for me.  (My parents were parked just around the corner and had come around to get breakfast at the Epi but it was was closed.)  Instead, we went across the street but they weren't doing take out and it was an hour wait to get inside.

After a quick moment of panic, we realized the Pink Pastry Shop was open.  We went inside and they had a large assortment of muffins, cinnamon buns and more.  After selecting our breakfast items, Eliot and I admired the cupcakes.  When it was our turn, Mom, Dad and I ordered breakfast.  Meanwhile, Eliot and Jeremy went to Walgreen's to get Nana a milk and a juice for me.  The ladies in the Pink Pastry Shop were very nice.  We told them we were local and that my parents' house was down the street from their other location.  I also told them we'd be back for cupcakes later!

It was still raining so we quickly took the food back to my parents' car.  Nana, Mom and Dad all ate inside their car.  On the way back to our car, we stopped to visit my friend Katie who was working two shops over.  We were pretty soaked, but I gave her a huge hug- the first hug we've been able to give each other in over a year.  They were pretty busy as most of the other stores in town hadn't opened yet, so we went back to our Jeep to eat our breakfast and let her work.

My cinnamon bun was delicious and I savored every bite as we sat there.  We "people-watched" as people with umbrellas tried to find a place to stand for the parade.  It was still raining pretty steadily.  After we played on our phones for a while, I texted Katie to see if it had quieted down.  She told me to come over so we visited with her.  While there, Eliot also bought me a rock that I saw and really liked the blue and purples of it.

As it got closer to parade time, we decided we better go back outside.  It had stopped raining!  Instead of watching the parade from the store like we usually do, we stood with Mom and Dad at their car.  Nana was set up so she could see the parade from the car without getting out.  While standing behind their car, Eliot and I talked with a few ladies who were visiting from Washington D.C.  Once they realized I grew up in Bar Harbor and Trenton, they asked us a few questions and we gave them some tips.

Unfortunately, the parade was really short this year.  We weren't sure if it was the rain, COVID, or what... but we all admitted that it was a little disappointing.  However, I was thankful they still had it, as Bangor's parade was completely cancelled due to the rain.

Mom, Dad and Nana decided they were going to go home.  Eliot, Jeremy and I decided to stay in town for a bit and to walk around the stores in town.  It's been a while since Eliot and I have shopped in town and it was fun checking walking around.  We went to a bunch of our favorite stores in town.  We also walked down to the pier and I took a few pictures.  While there, we scoped out our place for the fireworks.

Before returning to our car, we had to go into Grammie and Grampie's old store.  The people who run the t-shirt store in it now know my Dad, but I wasn't sure if they would recognize us kids.  The gentleman did, and right away he asked if my parents were in town.  I said that they'd been in for the parade and then gone home.  Then, I talked with him while Eliot and Jeremy wandered around the store.  Before leaving, I took another look around... reminiscing all of the time I spent there as a child and teenager.

When we returned to our car right outside, Eliot and Jeremy saw a line of people outside of the Epi.  They were opening on the 4th of July after all!  (Apparently, they switched their day of being closed from Sunday to Monday that week.)  We got in line and I called my Mom.  Dad wanted a cookie and Nana wanted a whoopie pie.  Eliot and Jeremy both got small pizzas and I got my Epi Italian with sweet sauce.  Then, I brought another cookie and whoopie pie home with me.

I ate one half of my sandwich while we waited in the car for their pizzas to be ready.  (It was packed inside so it made sense to come back.)  After about 25 minutes, Jeremy went back to wait for the pizzas to be finished.  Eliot went over to the Pink Pastry Shop to get our cupcakes.  I sat in the car and people watched.  After they both came back to the Jeep, we rode around town and headed home.

The rest of the afternoon went by in a blur.  All of us were tired from getting up so early that morning.  Mom, Dad and Nana all fell asleep in their chairs.  Eliot fell asleep in the office chair and I fell asleep on the couch.  I think Jeremy was the only one who didn't take a nap.  I finally woke up about an hour and a half later.

Eliot and I had planned to meet up with Katie for dinner.  She wanted to get out of town and off the island since it was chaos down there.  We went through a few restaurants before finding one that was open, and we finally made it to Margarita's in Ellsworth.  (I haven't been there since it was the Mex and I went in middle school for Girl Scouts.)

We had a great meal with her and another friend who was visiting home for the 4th of July holiday as well.  We caught up, laughed, and enjoyed our food.  Eliot loved his steak quesadilla and my taco salad was delicious!  Katie had a margarita flight that was red, white and blue themed and looked delicious as well.  After dinner, we said goodbye to the girls and told them that we'd see them the following day.

Eliot and I decided to stop at Walmart for a few minutes on the ride home.  We walked around the store trying to burn off a little bit of our dinner.  We found a few things we'd been meaning to get.  Then, we went home and had a quiet evening with my family watching the fireworks from all over the country on both CNN and the Macy's special.

Monday morning, we all slept in.  In fact, Eliot and I didn't even get out of bed until after 10 am.  Jeremy was planning to leave between noon and two, so we finally all got moving after our slow morning start.

Since we didn't get any family photos on the 4th, we all put our shirts on Monday to take pictures.  We went outside to take them in the driveway.  Thankfully, Jeremy had a tripod and I figured out how to use the timer on my phone.  After a bunch of outtakes, we did finally get a few good ones!

Mom and Dad were going to Home Depot, but Eliot and I also wanted to go to look at storm doors to replace the one on our front porch.  After a little bit of creativity, Jeremy, Eliot and Dad got Nana up into their Jeep Wrangler.  (It's too high for her to step up into.)  We all said goodbye to Jeremy.  Then, all three cars pulled out of the driveway.

Jeremy waved goodbye to us as Eliot and I and Mom, Dad and Nana all drove into the Ellsworth Home Depot.  Mom, Dad, Eliot and I got the flowers they needed for the cemetery.  Then, Mom went back to the car to sit with Nana.  Meanwhile, Eliot, Dad and I went to look at the storm doors.  We compared them and picked out which one made the most sense.  We're hoping to order one so we can have it ready for when Dad comes down again to help us with house projects.

After getting back to our cars, Mom, Dad and Nana headed over to McDonald's and Eliot and I went to Dairy Queen again.  (Both are next to each other in Ellsworth.)  I waved to them, but they didn't appear to see me.  I was also joking and trying to see who got through first.  We were both at the pick up windows at the same time, and they got through faster.  Then, we were behind them driving back up the hill.  Unfortunately, I realized that my burger was missing.  I told Eliot to pull up next to them at the light.  I put my window down and yelled over that we had to go back for my burger.

Once we finally had all of our food, Eliot and I proceeded to drive from Ellsworth to Bar Harbor.  Mom, Dad and Nana we taking the flowers over to the cemetery.  Eliot and I had told them we'd meet them in town.  We found a parking spot behind the bank and I let Mom know there was a handicap space there for them once they arrived.

Eliot and I went across the street to visit with Katie for a few minutes.  They weren't as busy as the previous day, but she was still working.  Once Mom, Dad and Nana made it into town, (and got the parking spot I told them about) Eliot and I went across the street to meet them at the ice cream store.  (If I'd known we were getting ice cream, I would have saved some room!)  Mom and Dad each got an ice cream at Ben and Bill's.  I asked Daddy to get me some chocolate fudge that I could bring home.  (I had a whole goody box of my favorite treats from home!)  Eliot and I sat with them on the bench outside and we just watched as people drove by.  Our matching Mickey shirts were a big hit.  A few people driving by commented even on them!

We drove around town one more time and headed home.  While there, Eliot and I packed up our stuff so we'd be ready to drive home later in the evening.  The fireworks were starting around 9:15 and we were hoping that we'd be on the road between 10:30 and 11:00.  Around 6:30, we got ready to leave for the fireworks.  I took a few quick photos of the decorations outside before we piled into Mom and Dad's Jeep.

They drove us into town and dropped us off right at the corner of Cottage and Main Street.  Eliot and I went down to the shore path to put the blanket we borrowed from Mom and Dad down.  Then, we went back up the hill to let Katie know where we were sitting.  We decided to get ice cream even though the line to get in Ben and Bill's was almost to the bank.  Thankfully, it moved quickly.  Eliot and I also talked with the family behind us who were vacationing here from New Jersey.  Before I knew it, I was handed an enormous sundae with a large pile of whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles.  (Our server was training and I think she gave me a large instead of a small.)

Eliot and I took our giant ice creams back down to the shore path.  We climbed onto our blanket and ate our treats.  A few minutes after 8:30, Katie popped up and joined us.  We all talked and people watched while we waited for it to get dark.  As the sun dipped to our left, it created a stunning view of the harbor.  I took pictures, Eliot took a few and Katie jumped up to get a few as well.

Eventually, it was getting dark.  A little after nine, we could see tiny fireworks popping up on the shore across the water.  (I thought it was from Lamoine but after looking at a map it might have been Winter Harbor.)  We saw a drone flying above the crowd preparing for our fireworks.  Someone swam into the water from the beach before our fireworks started.  (We thought they were crazy but in hindsight- it might have been a professional photographer who was also wearing a wetsuit.)

All of a sudden our night sky lit up with a bunch of fireworks.  Bar Harbor certainly outdid themselves.  It was the longest show I've ever seen them do.  The finale was over 2 minutes long of straight fireworks.  They had so many large ones, loud ones, colorful ones, screaming fireworks, fizzing fireworks, and more.  The finale was so insane that at one point I thought they were going to blow everything up.  It was crazy!

Afterwards, I insisted that they used last year's unused fireworks budget to also fund this years.  It was just so much that they had to have combined them.  (Later, my Dad said he had heard that's what they did.)  We were all certainly dazzled!

Katie had offered to drive us home, so we packed up our blankets and walked back up the hill.  After a quick potty break at the store, we all walked over to her car that was parked over on Ledgelawn.  It made for a quick escape from the traffic.  We opted to go towards the Kebo golf course and we didn't wait long before we were out on the Eagle Lake Road leaving the traffic behind us.  We passed by our high school and took the route I went to school for 4 years.  Before I knew it, we were back at my parents' house.  We said goodbye to Katie and made our way inside.

Eliot and I visited with Mom and Nana for a few minutes.  We told them all about the fireworks, the drone, the swimmer, the fireworks over on the other shore.  Then, Eliot and I packed up the last of our stuff.  Dad was upstairs doing some taxes but he came down to bid us farewell.  We gave everyone big hugs before leaving.  By the time we got on the road, it was after 11:30... and it was going to be a really late night.

Eliot was more awake than I was so he said he would drive.  We gassed the Jeep up in Ellsworth and made our way towards home.  We saw a few foxes and a deer along the way.  We stopped in Gardiner to stretch and use the bathroom, then we made the final leg of the trip home.  I started to doze off again when we reached the toll booth before Portland.  Thankfully, at that point, Eliot knew where he was enough that he told me to sleep.  I fell asleep to the sound of him quietly singing along with the radio.

Eliot and I arrived home just after 3:30 am.  We grabbed what we needed for the night and went inside.  After unloading our bags, we made our way upstairs and into bed.  I crashed from exhaustion, but it was well worth it to see the Bar Harbor fireworks!

The plans for our weekend were definitely a little jumbled, but we did still get two full days at home like we originally planned to.  It all worked out for the best and Eliot and I had a wonderful holiday weekend up in Bar Harbor with my family!  °o°

Independence Day 2021

Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans!!!

Today feels like all is right with the world.  This year, I am back home in Bar Harbor celebrating Independence Day the way I was meant to be and it's a glorious thing!!!

After last year, I was so excited for today that I knew we had to go all out.  I always dress up in something special, but this year, I wanted it to be over the top.  Since the 4th fell on a Sunday this year, both Jeremy and Eliot have the entire weekend and they don't go back to work until Tuesday!  This is the first July 4th in a while that we've all been home for.  (I don't think Jeremy has been home for it since 2016 or 2017.)

Thus... I had to get us all matching shirts.  The matching pjs were so much fun on our Disney Christmas Cruise that I'm making it a 4th of July thing now too.  Eliot and I usually wear coordinating shirts together, but this year we're taking it up a level.

I usually find Eliot's and my matching Disney Americana shirts from Shop Disney or Kohl's.  This year, I found some fun Mickey and Minnie shirts that reminded me of our Christmas PJs.  (They were gray and they had Mickey and Minnie in tie dye outfits!)  I bought shirts for the entire family.  Unfortunately, Kohl's cancelled all of the men's shirts a few days later, so I had to pivot and pick another design.

Our new patriotic Disney shirts are also from Kohl's.  These are red (for the women) and blue (for the men) and they all have a Mickey head with an American flag pattern inside.  They aren't quite as fun as the other ones I found, but they still work!

I'm really excited about our matching shirts... but I'm also excited for the parade, and the fireworks, and being in town for the 4th, and going to the Epi for lunch, and sitting in the park enjoying the view of the pier and the waterfront, and enjoying the weekend back home!!!  After last year's celebrations being cancelled, this is all that I wanted!

Hopefully it will be a wonderful day with lots of memory making!!!  I hope you enjoy your Independence Day celebrations too!  Have fun, be safe, and let freedom ring!!!

Happy 4th of July!!!  °o°

Father's Day 2021

Happy Father's Day to all of the Dads out there!  I hope you had a great day!  Eliot and I have had an eventful few days as my family visited us this weekend!

The fun started Friday night when Jeremy drove up so he'd be here first thing in the morning on Saturday.  He arrived before Eliot got home from work, so he and I hung out and caught up.  Eliot arrived about an hour or so later with my dinner.  Then the three of us hung out flipping back and forth between NBA playoff basketball and NHL playoff hockey!  Jeremy doesn't watch hockey unless he's visiting us, but he did get a kick out of watching the Vegas Golden Knights lose to the Montreal Canadiens.  (As Sharks fans, Vegas is our least favorite NHL team and we always cheer against them.)

Saturday morning, Eliot and I got up and packaged up the orders we had to get out in the mail.  After Eliot dropped off the packages, he came home with breakfast from Dunkin Donuts for all three of us.  He bought me and Jeremy donuts but I also had a breakfast sandwich that I didn't know about.  When I discovered it, Jeremy regretted not asking for his own sandwich, so we split mine.  (I'm a good big sister!)

The next few hours, we waited for our parents to arrive.  They got a later start than they'd planned so they weren't going to arrive until mid-afternoon.  Eliot went outside to mow the lawn.  Jeremy chilled out on the couch and I did a little bit of cleaning.  Around 2:00 pm, their car pulled into our driveway.

The rest of the afternoon, we worked on some small projects around the house.  Mom cleaned a some things in the garage.  Eliot and Dad trimmed some of our trees on the edge of the lawn in our back yard.  Eliot and Jeremy took our broken storm door off from our front porch entrance.  Dad restrung the dishwasher drainpipe so it wouldn't be in the way of everything under the kitchen sink.  I bounced between everyone helping and making sure everyone had plenty of water.

It wasn't a lot, but the small projects we got done were a huge help.  Eliot realized that our grass on the edge of the lawn was dying because the tree branches were taking all the sunlight.  Now we can at least get the grass some sun.  I've been annoyed about the dishwasher drain for over two years from the time we fixed it.  And taking the storm door off was a huge relief.  It's been broken since a few weeks after we moved into our house.  It's a pain in the butt to close; you practically have to slam it shut.  Plus, it's still dropping little pieces of glass all over the front porch.  With puppies coming soon, I wanted that to go away so we can buy a new one!

After we finished with everything, we did a quick clean up.  Mom, Dad and Jeremy drove into Biddeford to check into the hotel.  Eliot and I took quick showers and headed in a few minutes after them.  We met them at their hotel before driving over to Ninety Nine Steakhouse for dinner.  The restaurant was too full to bring us right in, but we were able to be seated immediately outside.  It was warm but not too hot so we decided to do that.  We all sat at one of the 6 picnic tables and it was actually really nice!  We had a wonderful meal and even got to see the beautiful sunset!  Then, we said goodnight to my parents and Eliot, Jeremy and I drove home.  Jeremy stayed up to watch one of the NBA games but Eliot and I went straight to bed.

Sunday morning, we got up early since we had plans to meet Mom and Dad in Saco at the IHOP.  After dropping Jeremy's car off at the park and ride in Saco, we arrived a few minutes before Mom and Dad so we put our names in.  They finally seated us about 30 minutes later.  At that point, Mom didn't feel well so she went back to sit in the car.  (We think some of her medicine might make her nauseous.)  Dad, Jeremy, Eliot and I had our breakfast inside but Eliot kept running food out to the car for Mom.  Our server was great and put a rush on Mom's eggs so she had something to eat.  After a delicious breakfast, we went out to check on Mom.  Thankfully, she was feeling better.

Next, we drove across the street to the Hannaford grocery store parking lot.  My aunt and uncle were dropping Nana off with us so she could go home with Mom and Dad after visiting with them for the week.  My cousin Luke was actually behind us at the traffic light.  It was really funny... I saw him dancing around in his car like an idiot out of the corner of my eye but it took me a second to realize it was him when I looked in the rearview mirror.  Suddenly, I exclaimed "Oh, it's Luke!" and we all waved back.

We all parked in a quiet section of the parking lot.  Luke had his daughter with him and it was fun to see her.  (We haven't seen her since last Mother's Day and she's gotten so big!  She's almost three now!)  Last time she was quiet but she was so talkative this time!  She told us all about her new swing set.  They only live about 20 minutes from Eliot and me, so we're all going to try to get together soon.  We also visited with my aunt and uncle for a few minutes.  Then, we got Nana moved from their car to Mom and Dad's car and we said goodbye and headed in different directions.

Mom, Dad and Nana went back to Biddeford to drop a few things off at Goodwill that we took out of our garage.  The three of us kids went into Hannaford to get sunscreen and waters.  (It was about 86° so we knew we needed to hydrate a lot and wear plenty of sunscreen.)  We then drove to Old Orchard Beach and Pirates Cove mini golf.  Our parents and Nana arrived about 10 minutes later and parked in the shade.

Then, Dad, Jeremy, Eliot and I went in to play.  (Mom sat in the car with Nana.)  We did the "easier" course- which was fun since I haven't played that one in a while.  Dad kicked all of our butts and got three hole in ones.  Eliot came in second and also got a hole in one.  (Which didn't surprise me; he usually does well.)  Jeremy and I didn't have a great mini golf day and I definitely bit the dust bringing up the rear.  We had a ton of fun mini golfing though.  But it was so hot in the sun today.

Thankfully, Eliot knows me well enough to know that I would need water.  He tucked a cold one into his cargo pocket and I drank the entire thing throughout the course.  I kept trying to find shade whenever possible.  At hole 11, there was a stone edge in the shade.  We had caught up with a few of the families in front of us, so I sat on that rock in the shade for about 10 minutes.  That really got me through the rest of the holes.

At the end, we didn't win the free game, but Dad did get a scratch card with $1 off each person at a future visit!  The coupon is good for the Bar Harbor Pirates Cove, so we might go mini golfing again over the 4th of July while we're home!

After, we walked back to the car to visit with Mom and Nana for a few minutes.  We gave Dad his Father's Day card.  Even though we were in the shade, the heat was catching up with me.  I had Eliot drive our Jeep over so I could get inside and sit in the air conditioning.  We talked for a few more minutes and then said our goodbyes.

Eliot and I dropped Jeremy off at the park and ride so he could drive back south to New Hampshire.  Eliot and I went to Dairy Queen after he suggested it.  I haven't had a Blizzard in forever, and I thought a small one would be the perfect thing to help cool me off.  Eliot took over driving and that helped me feel better too.  My small cookie dough Blizzard hit the spot and I slowly ate it while Eliot ran into Walmart for a minute.  Then we headed home a different way that he had gone a few days prior.  It was fun to see a different area on the backroads.  We saw lots of farm land, horses and cows.  We also found a new place to get ice cream!

When Eliot and I got home, we basically went straight up to bed for a nap.  I was very overheated, hot, exhausted, and I desperately needed to cool off.  Our bedroom has the air conditioner so I went right up there.  My cold washcloth helped and I woke from my nap feeling much better.  I'm a little sunburnt, but I feel good otherwise.

Eliot went to Subway to get us sandwiches because I didn't feel like cooking.  Now, we're watching the Vegas vs Montreal hockey game and getting ready to put in a late night working on mouse ear and desk accessory orders!  We'll probably be up pretty late, but it was worth it to have a fun weekend off with my family!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend too!  °o°

Mother's Day 2021

This past weekend, my family celebrated Mother's Day.  Unlike last yearthis year we actually got together on Mother's Day... even though Mom and Dad's big income tax deadline is quickly approaching on the extended date of May 17th.

The celebrations started a little bit early as Jeremy came up to our house Saturday afternoon.  When he arrived, Eliot and I were just finishing a bit of cleaning- me inside the house and Eliot mowing the lawn and weed whacking.  Jeremy relaxed on the couch while Eliot and I showered and got cleaned up.  Then, we went up to Portland.

The mall was closed so we headed toward Target because both Eliot and Jeremy wanted to go.  They both found a few things they had been looking for.  After that, we ordered Pat's Pizza.  We had a little bit of time to kill before we had to pick it up, so we went to the Walgreen's down the road from Pat's.  While there, we wandered around and I found a little Mickey plush with shorts on.  I had been looking for one for a home decor project, so he came home with us along with some snacks for the night.

We picked up Jeremy's and my pizzas and headed home.  (Eliot had a frozen pizza at home that he wanted instead.)  While eating, we watched the first two episodes of the new Ducktales on Disney+.  Then, we switched over to watch the first period of the San Jose Sharks game before calling it a night and going to bed early.

Sunday morning, the three of us got up, showered and headed north.  Jeremy took his car while Eliot and I drove my parents' truck that we've had for the winter.  We made a quick stop to drop something off at our storage unit, then we went down the road to the park and ride to leave Jeremy's car.  Since we missed the mall Saturday, the guys wanted to stop at Newbury Comics quickly.  While they went inside I called my Mom to check in with their ETA.  We still had plenty of time so we went into Books a Million where Eliot found a Charmander Loungefly that he wanted.  We also made another quick stop at Target before hopping back on the highway.

We met Mom and Dad about 45 minutes later at the LL Bean store in Freeport.  It was there, in the LL Bean parking lot, that I hugged my Mom for the first time since last August.  It was pretty emotional, but somehow I held it together.  After that, I gave Mom the card we all bought her and Jeremy gave her a little plush zebra.

After that, we didn't really have any plans.  We went inside LL Bean and walked around the store.  I swore I saw our dentist but with everyone wearing masks I couldn't tell.  A few minutes later, a lady came up to me while I was watching the fish in the pond and said hello to me.  It was our dentist's wife who works in the front office.  I said hello to her, introduced her to my family and told her Eliot was around there somewhere.  She went back to her shopping and few minutes later, Eliot caught up with us.  Apparently, he wandered off to pet a dog in the shoe section.  The dog hadn't left the house much since she'd been adopted during quarantine and was still getting used to people.

Eventually we made our way outside where we took a few pictures with LL Bean boot car.  Then, we slowly walked around downtown Freeport.  (Mom has to walk slowly as she's still getting her strength back after all of her surgeries last year.  This was the most she's walked since fall of 2019.)  We started looking for food places since we hadn't eaten yet, and eventually decided on getting ice cream at Ben and Jerry's.  Mom and Jeremy both got milkshakes.  Dad and Eliot both got sorbet and I got a bowl of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.  It was so nice to be able to sit all together, at a picnic table, without face masks on.  Plus, the ice cream was delicious!

After that, we made our way across the street and over to Yankee Candle.  While we wandered around the store, the ladies there told us the store was closing- which was why they had so many great deals.  Eliot found a wax pot melter that he liked and since we already had a bunch of the melt cups at home with no melter, it made sense to get it.  He got the melter and three more melt pots for the cost of just the melter!

At this point, we didn't really have anywhere else that we wanted to go, but we were all getting thirsty.  We decided to go to McDonald's for drinks so we split up and walked back to our cars.  While, I drove over to McDonald's, I realized that I had forgotten to tell Eliot and Jeremy about the comic book store that I'd seen on the map when looking for ice cream places.  After giving me a little crap for forgetting something so important, they decided to go since they still had about 20 minutes before it closed.  I parked in McDonald's and they headed right over to the comic book store across the street.

Dad went inside to order drinks and some fries while Mom and I sat in their car and talked.  A few minutes later, Eliot and Jeremy reappeared talking excitedly and each holding a white shopping bag.  Eliot even bought me a gift while there... Buzz and Woody pens!  Dad had accidentally bought Coke instead of Diet Coke, so Eliot went inside to get a drink and more fries.  Jeremy and Dad went to gas up the truck for us while Eliot and I stayed at the car and talked with my Mom.  Once they returned, we all visited for a few more minutes before Mom and Dad had to drive back to Augusta to pick Nana up from her visit with my aunts and uncles.

Before leaving, I grabbed the Mickey Rainbow fabric that my parents had bought for me at the Topsham Joann Fabrics on their drive down.  I had asked them to get me 5-6 yards since the Portland store was sold out of it, and Dad bought me the entire bolt of fabric!  (I think it's 10 yards since that's what they had in stock before he went.)  It's so bright and fun!  I can't wait to make a bunch of stuff with it!

We all said goodbye and gave each other more hugs.  Then we tried to make loose plans for Memorial Day weekend.  We're not sure if the three us of "kids" will be going home to Trenton, or if Mom, Dad and Nana will be coming down to us, or if we will be doing a little of both, but we've all marked that weekend off to get together again.

Then they headed north and we drove back south.  Eliot and I dropped Jeremy off at the park and ride where his car was waiting for him and we headed home.  Once we got home, I basically crashed, but it was a good crash.  I was physically, mentally and emotionally spent.  I was so grateful that we got to see my parents and spend time with them.  (We haven't seen them since Christmas.)  They're fully vaccinated, we've had our first shots and we're closer to returning to things feeling more normal.

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day as well... ours was definitely special.  °o°
