Happy First Day of Spring! 🌸

Happy First Day of Spring!!! 🌸🌿🌼🌐🌸🌳

I can't believe that it's already been a month since my last post.  I had no intention of waiting so long to visit back here, but things suddenly got very busy very quickly.

Thankfully, it's been good things for the most part.  Between hockey season and tucking in a few ski trips for Eliot, the past month has flown right by us!  I actually had a few merchandise posts that I've been wanting to post for weeks... At this point, they seem kind of pointless but I might share them anyways since they were important to me.

Anyways, I wanted to drop by for a quick visit in honor of the first day of spring!  The snow in our yard has disappeared quickly over the last week, with days regularly in the 40's and 50's.  I'm looking forward to everything turning green again.  We've still got a bit of time before that happens, but I'm sure it'll be here before I know it!

In the meantime, Eliot and I will be busy with spring cleaning and organizing in the house.  We've also got a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes with the businesses.  But once more of that is done, we can get some things done outside!  I'm definitely looking forward to warmer days, sunshine, flowers and spending time outside!

Happy Spring Everyone!!!  °o°

Spring 2023 Bucket List

The First Day of Spring was last week, so it's definitely time for me to get cracking on my spring goals.  I have to be honest, Eliot and I have been so busy lately that I've barely even given much thought to my Spring 2023 Bucket List.  But after a little bit of reflection, I finally worked out a list of goals that I'm happy with.

This year, I'm scaling the list back a little bit.  Last year, I had 20 goals on my spring list... and by the time I did my recap, I had only accomplished 5 of those goals.  I'm feeling like I need to put my focus elsewhere at the present moment, so I've decided to worry less about my goals and more about getting what I need to get done finished.

But, I've still got 15 goals... so let's check out my Spring 2023 Bucket List!

Melissa's Spring 2023 Bucket List

  1. Spring Cleaning
  2. Read a Book
  3. Fly a Kite
  4. Make an Easter Craft
  5. Have a Picnic
  6. Go to a Mariners Hockey Game
  7. Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries
  8. Visit the Beach
  9. Have a Game Night with Eliot
  10. Spring Manicure
  11. Make a Wreath
  12. Go on a Walk or Hike
  13. Weekend Getaway
  14. Enjoy Watching Nature
  15. Go to a Portland Sea Dogs Game

While this list of spring goals is small, it is also mighty.  And my biggest goal right now is to get some work done on our house, so the rest of this seems manageable.

Let's do this Spring of 2023!!! °o°

Springing Ahead

I think it's no secret that I feel like I've been in a rut lately.  Our 2023 has already held a myriad of ups and downs.  Most recently, Eliot and I have spent most of March sick with upper respiratory infections.  Eliot has had almost two straight weeks of all-day meetings at work.  We've gotten behind in a few of our orders, behind in normal life stuff and we're barely getting any sleep.  I've also been battling some grief and gloom.

However, today suddenly feels like a giant breath of fresh air.  The First Day of Spring was yesterday, and it's like it shook the cobwebs out of me a bit.  It almost feels like I'm springing ahead into a new season and a better place... and I hope that feeling stays.

And this probably sounds super lame, but I feel really accomplished over a few small things that Eliot and I have been putting off.  We've both been so busy that gotten behind in normal house maintenance stuff.  Our guest sink has been mildly clogged and our kitchen sink also has a clog... although it's a bit more serious.  And every time we take a shower, we're standing in a few inches of water.

Over the weekend, we bought vinegar and baking soda.  I decided that I was going to try to tackle the clogs without using Drano unless it was absolutely necessary.  So I went to work.  The guest sink was fine after one round.  The shower was not working... and I was resigned that it would probably need Drano or to be manually unclogged.

The kitchen sink is another story.  I used way too much baking soda, so instead of bubbling and cleaning the blockage, it got even more clogged.  I ended up using a straw to try to pull out and remove as much of the baking soda as possible.  It worked, but the clog still there.  Then, somewhere in the depths of my memory, I recalled myself having a plunger in the sink a few years ago when we had another clog.

I set to work looking under the sink, which is a mess right now.  (Dad and Eliot repaired the dishwasher and when they reconnected the drainage pipe, Dad didn't snake it through the back like it was originally.  So now it's in the way and everything is just shoved in there instead of being organized.  Another project for another day... but I digress.)  Thankfully, I was able to locate the toilet plunger that we bought specifically for, and dedicated to, only using in the sinks.

After about a minute or two, I got the drain fully cleared and the water disappeared!

Feeling good about getting that fixed, I decided to try the same method for the shower before resorting to the Drano.  This morning, while I was showering, I used the plunger and it was obvious after only a few seconds that it was doing something.  I kept at it a few times, and before I knew it, I could hear the water draining!  Success!

Again, totally lame, but we've all been there.  Home ownership has many situations, and sometimes you just don't have time or feel like dealing with them.  But after the success of these few small projects, I'm feeling pretty accomplished.

I also checked another thing off of my to do list this morning.  Earlier today, I missed the first half of sewing class so I could help with Eliot's race registration for the 2023 Wine and Dine race this November.  I'll save all of the details for another post, but it felt good to know that he got into his challenge, especially since he was supposed to be in a meeting during registration so he couldn't sign himself up like he usually would.

Most importantly, it feels like my motivation is back.  I haven't felt much like cleaning and organizing the past few months.  And earlier this month when I was really sick, I didn't feel like doing much of anything.  I was getting into a funk where I felt like I was wasting my days, even though I was still finishing plenty of things.  I just wasn't making much forward progress on the big picture items.  But any progress is still progress...

However, now that I'm feeling accomplished and a sense of actual motivation, it feels like I might finally be moving forward.  After feeling like I haven't gotten much done the past few weeks, it suddenly feels like I'm making a bit of progress... no matter how big or how small.  And that feels really good after the cloud that's been looming over me.

Maybe the Spring will be a time for renewal and refocusing for me, and I'm certainly ready to spring ahead into that new chapter.  °o°

Spring 2022 Bucket List Results

Well, you can't win them all.  And in the case of my 2022 Spring Bucket List... I barely even scratched the surface.  Oh well!  There's always next year!

As you know, I've been making seasonal bucket lists since last summer.  Ever since Eliot and I were fully vaccinated about a year ago, I've been more than ready to get back out in the world and do things.  I enjoyed the summer bucket list so much, that I kept making them for autumn, the holidays, and for winter.

My winter bucket list didn't go as well as the others, so I pulled a lot of those things over to the spring bucket list.  (Spoiler Alert: I still didn't get any of those accomplished in the spring either.)  I'm not too upset about these results though.  Eliot and I have been a lot busier than I could have imagined these past few weeks.  Plus, I had about three weeks of pretty intense stomach problems, so I lost a lot of time during that.

Anyways, let's just see how this all turned out...

1.) Do Some Spring Cleaning

This was probably my single most important goal of my spring bucket list.  So if there's only one thing that I needed to accomplish in order to feel good, it was this one.  Eliot and I still have a lot of stuff that we're tying to do, but I made a lot of progress on our master bedroom and with my master closet.  It feels good!

2.) Read a Book

Clearly, I really need to figure out a method to set aside time for daily reading...

3.) Fly a Kite

This was just a fun thing that I haven't done in years.  Maybe I can this summer...?

4.) Bake Something

Eliot and I are finally able to use our oven again.  Eliot gave it a good scrub a few weekends ago.  While we still need to clean the oven racks and give it one more cleaning, we are using it again and I've been able to make pre-mixed cookies!

5.) Blow Bubbles

This is silly, but I really wanted to blow bubbles.  Eliot bought me a little bubble gun and we've been having way too much fun with it!

6.) Make an Easter Craft

Easter kind of crept up on me and I didn't even think of doing this until it was too late.

7.) Paint on my Easel

I realized after I made this goal that I don't even know where I put my tabletop easel.  (I think it got moved during Squirrel Gate.)  I'll have to find it between now and the fall.

8.) Make a Seasonal Wreath

I had a few different ideas for this, but I never got the supplies in order to do them!

9.) Have a Picnic

This was supposed to happen during Eliot's and my trip up to Trenton and Bar Harbor over
Memorial Day Weekend.  Unfortunately, with my stomach problems, we lost an entire day to me being in bed instead of going out and exploring the island.

10.) Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries

This is silly, but I've really been wanting to make chocolate covered strawberries lately!

11.) Play Sports Outside

I had added this with the idea that we might finally have the basketball hoop that Eliot has requested for his birthday multiple years in a row... but we still haven't gotten it!

12.) Visit the Beach

Eliot and I were able to take a trip down to Old Orchard Beach a few weeks ago!

13.) Do A Puzzle

This was one of my winter goals that I pulled over... and we still haven't done it.

14.) Have a Game Night with Eliot

This is another winter goal that I pulled to this list.  We had wanted to play a game with my brother over Memorial Day weekend, but again stomach issues had me in bed.

15.) Spring Manicure

I really should have just done this.  I wanted to have pretty pastel pink nails!

16.) Go on a Walk or Hike

This was another casualty to my stomach problems.  No Jordan Pond Hike for me.

17.) Enjoy Watching Nature

I have enjoyed seeing lots of nature!  Eliot and I watched the birds at my parents' house and while there we saw lots of small birds, a blue jay, woodpecker and even Mom and Dad's first cardinal!  Our squirrels and chipmunks have always been close by and we've seen many deer during our travels around the state.  We actually had a fox in our yard a few weeks ago.  And we're always very happy to see "Munchie" (our resident groundhog) and our newest friend "Mrs. Munch" eating the dandelions out in our backyard throughout the day.  We love our critter friends!

18.) Visit a Garden

I had hoped to visit the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens after having so much fun going there for Gardens Aglow on my birthday!  Maybe over the summer!

19.) Go Outside More

I didn't check this off because we didn't go on any walks or hikes, or play basketball outside, or do a lot of those things.  But I have enjoyed being outside when I am.

20.) Draw Something with Sidewalk Chalk

I've got a new pack of sidewalk chalk that wants to be used... maybe this summer!

And there are you have it!  Five out of 20 isn't great, but it isn't awful.  I've also got a few of these on my summer bucket list that I've been working on, so I'm not completely upset about it.  Plus, I'm planning to continue to do this for each season going forward; these goals will all probably make it on to another one of my lists eventually anyways!

Hopefully I'll have plenty of time to work on these goals in the future!  °o°

Spring 2022 Bucket List

It's officially the First Day of Spring!  Happy Spring Everyone!!!

I'm definitely ready for warmer weather after our trip to California.  I know we're still not out of the woods since we've had snow on my Mom's birthday (April 20th) before.  But things are definitely looking up!  We haven't had as many nights below freezing and we've had day temperatures that have steadily been in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Since spring is upon us, there's no time like the present to get started on my Spring 2022 Bucket list.  As I told you yesterday, my winter one didn't work out so well... so I'm not wasting any time before diving right in on my spring one!  Let's check it out!

Melissa's Spring 2022 Bucket List

  1. Do Some Spring Cleaning
  2. Read a Book
  3. Fly a Kite
  4. Bake Something
  5. Blow Bubbles
  6. Make an Easter Craft
  7. Paint on my Easel
  8. Make a Seasonal Wreath
  9. Have a Picnic
  10. Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries
  11. Play Sports Outside
  12. Visit the Beach
  13. Do A Puzzle
  14. Have a Game Night with Eliot
  15. Spring Manicure
  16. Go on a Walk or Hike
  17. Enjoy Watching Nature
  18. Visit a Garden
  19. Go Outside More
  20. Draw Something with Sidewalk Chalk

This list looks like a lot of fun!  I'm looking forward to getting outside more.  When I was a kid, I played outside for hours on end, and now that I'm older, I tend to stay inside working most of my days.  I haven't blown bubbles, flown a kite or played with sidewalk chalk in ages.  Life is short, so you might as well enjoy it right?

I've also pulled quite a few things over from my Winter Bucket List that I didn't get done such as reading a book, baking something, painting on my easel, doing a puzzle and having a game night.  Hopefully, I'll have more time to get this list accomplished!

I think it's time for me to "spring" into action!  (Hehe.)

Happy Spring!!!  °o°
