It's been one year since my endometriosis excision surgery!!! 💛🎗🌻
I can't believe that it's already been a year. I'm so grateful to reach this milestone. And I'll be real, it hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows. I've had a lot of ups and downs since my surgery. It wasn't a miracle remedy, but I definitely feel a lot better than I did.
Back when I had surgery, I had a long list of things that I was ready to say goodbye to. Thankfully, I have said goodbye to most of my symptoms- intense stomach cramps and pain, unrelenting lower back pain, horrible periods, and frequent/painful urination. I have also personally made sure that I said goodbye forever to the shame and always questioning myself, doctors who don’t listen and to feeling hopeless and helpless.
Most notably, I said goodbye to “Bruno" the baseball sized ovarian cyst who ruled my life last summer- creating the sensation of a super tender cyst bump in my belly. And after seeing the world "endometriosis" on my surgery report, I've permanently said goodbye to wondering if my pain was all just in my head.
Sadly, I also said goodbye to my right fallopian tube since it was a casualty of this disease and there was no saving it. It's been a year, and I'm still very much 'in my feelings' about that loss... and I probably always will be.
Unfortunately, some of the symptoms are still here... and I'm coming to terms with the fact that they're probably here to stay. I still have times it feels like I’m being stabbed. My digestive issues, severe exhaustion, bloating and sciatic nerve pain & hip pain are still here. My lack of appetite and nausea are also issues that I'm learning to deal with. As for "all of other issues endometriosis causes"... the verdict is still out on that one too.
Thankfully, I have said hello to a few of the things on my other list. My team of doctors and nurses at BIDMC were stellar. I can't say enough good things about them. In fact, I cried when I left my post-op appointment because I didn't want to leave them behind. And I'm so grateful (and relieved) that my procedure and healing was textbook.
I do feel more like myself and I do feel like I can do things again... but I'm also a newer version of me who has a chronic illness and is still learning how to pace myself. And as for the last thing on my list... Well, I haven't quite given up on wearing jeans ever again, but right now it's still not an option. So maybe someday...
This past year has been a new chapter for me... but if I'm being honest... it wasn't what I was hoping for after surgery. And it hasn't always been beautiful, but I'm trying to stay positive. Because it took a lot for me to get where I am today.
And that's worth celebrating... ✨🌻✨
So that's exactly what we'll be doing today. I'm spending my one-year post surgery day at my favorite place, the Magic Kingdom. It wasn't supposed to work out like this, because Eliot and I were originally going to be flying home today. But we switched our plans right before we booked our flights. So instead of arriving in FL a day earlier, we decided to leave a day later. And it took a while for me to even realize that we'd be in Florida on my one-year "surgiversary". But I feel like everything worked out exactly was it was supposed to... and the universe knew what I needed, and I really needed today.
So Eliot and I are going to spend the day at my happy place. I'm looking forward to enjoying every single thing that I can.... the rides, the food, the ambiance, the magic. And it definitely beats what I was doing a year ago! 💕🏰✨
This is a great way to wrap-up our 14th Wedding Anniversary trip as well. I'm so excited to spend the day with my favorite person in our favorite place. And when we get booted out of the Magic Kingdom due to the Halloween Party... the fun won't stop since we are planning to head over to Hollywood Studios for Fantasmic. And it feels appropriate... because I'm pretty sure we used the Fantasmic Exit music as our exit music right after our wedding when we first walked back down the aisle as Mr. and Mrs. Cady.
So cheers to it being a year after my endometriosis surgery!!! 💛🎗🌻
And cheers to celebrating fourteen wonderful years with my Prince Charming!!! 💖
