This morning was my last sewing class of the fall session. The past eight weeks flew by just like they usually do. (I can't believe it's already been 8 weeks since my first class!) I never feel like I get as much done as I want to, but I did get a good amount accomplished during this class. I didn't really get the "bunch" of projects done that I had hoped to, but I do feel like I have accomplished something!
For my first project, I decided to make a Halloween table mat. We did a table mat like this back in my second class way back in the spring of 2018, but I wanted to make a Halloween version of it. I used a fabric strip roll that I bought from Walmart a few years ago. It took be a few weeks to sew all of the strips together, but I was happy with how it looked when I was finished. My instructor helped me cut them into triangles.
I forgot to take a picture of the top of the mat when it was finished. The hexagon top is all done; I just need to find a fabric to use for the back and to sew it all together!
The second half of class, I started making a rainbow placemat for our dining room. I wanted something fun and colorful. You might recall from my first post about how I found these rainbow rolls of fabric strips at Joann. I bought two packs of them to make placemats. Eliot and I also found bright geometric rainbow fabric for the backs!
It took me four sessions to make most of one placemat. I accidentally messed up the pattern on four strips, so if I hadn't done that, I would have finished it. (I spent the first hour of today's class tearing those out instead of sewing.) I was able to sew 5 more strips this morning though! It's almost done... even if it's taking me forever to do it.
I really do love how bright and fun the placemat is. I'm planning to make 6 of them... which kind of sounds like torture right now but I do love how they look! Plus, I'm sure they'll look great in our dining room with all of our colorful decor!
I'm hoping to get more of them done over the winter. I still need to learn how to put the backing on them, so maybe I'll do that during the spring session. Speaking of the spring 2022 session... I'm looking at a few different projects to make. I'd still love to make a gathered skirt. I'm also thinking it would be fun to make an apron. I've got some fabrics set aside for both of those, so I guess we'll see how it works out!
In the meantime, I do have Nana's sewing table that she gave me down here now. It's currently in Eliot's and my storage unit, but we're hoping to bring it to the house and put it in my office this winter. I'd love to be able to get some sewing projects done between now and my spring sewing class! Hopefully, I'll be able to finish some projects! °o°
