Hello Friends! I hope you're enjoying all of my pre-posted blog content while we have been away adventuring in California! Today, I'm sharing another Wedding Wednesday post since we've only got 13 more days until Eliot's and my 10th Anniversary!
At first, I was a bit stumped about what I should write about. But when I was writing about my Bridal Shower a few days ago, that's when I realized what I should do. You probably noticed me referring to my friends as Katie D. and Katie N. There's a very good reason for that. Because not only were there two Katies...
My entire side of our bridal party was "Katie"s and "Cady"s.
Yup, that's right. And talk about confusing. In fact, we actually had three Katies and two Cadys. So today, I thought I'd tell you a little more about the incredible women that I had standing at my side when Eliot and I were married ten years ago.
Katie D. was my maid of honor at our wedding. We have been best friends since we met my sophomore year of high school. She went out for volleyball her freshman year and that's when we really got to know each other. (Technically, we had known each other years prior though Girl Scouts but since she was a year younger than me, we were never in the same groups.) We immediately hit it off and that was it. Katie and I have shared so many giggles through the years. We played the flute together in band and we both took French. She and I were both huge fans of the Backstreet Boys. She came down to visit me in Boston so many times during college. She really is my sister from another mister. We don't see each other as often as we used to, but we always pick right back up where we left off like no time has passed at all.
Katie N. joined our friend group when she and BJ started dating. (You might recall my post about BJ and Katie's wedding from a few years ago.) She fit right in and always made us laugh. She's so much fun to be around... and her and BJ together are a joy as well as hilarious. Eliot and I were really close with BJ and Katie when they moved down to Woburn and they lived right down the street from us. While we were planing our wedding, they were only about 10 minutes away. Since Eliot and I moved up to Maine, we haven't kept in touch with them as much, or seen them as much, but we always enjoy spending time with them when we get to see them.
Kaitlin, also known as Katie, is my cousin and probably the closest thing I have to a sister. She's three years younger than me, so we basically grew up together. Of all my cousins, I was closest to her and her brothers since we were all pretty much in a row age wise. I have vivid memories of the two of us in fits of giggles out in a tent at Nana and Papa's camp when we got kicked out of the camp for laughing and not going to sleep. We were obsessed with the Backstreet Boys so going to their concert together a few weeks ago was a dream come true. Kaitlin has also been one of my biggest confidants. Every time she calls, we spend hours catching up on the phone talking about our lives and her three boys. (Her son Emery was our ring bearer.)
Sara is Eliot's younger sister by a few years. They basically grew up together. Sara was in high school when Eliot and I started dating. She's always been like a younger sister to me... the kind you could go shopping with at the mall or talk to about boys, selecting colleges, and other life stuff. She has spent years furthering her education by pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She graduated last year in May and Eliot and I are so proud of her! Sara just started her job as a veterinarian at an emergency clinic outside of Chicago a few weeks ago. It's the same clinic that she just interned for over the past year. It's been a busy job, but she's learned a lot. We're so proud of her. We're looking forward to seeing her over WDW Marathon weekend in January and Eliot is also trying to visit her in Illinois sometime in the spring.
Elissa is Eliot's youngest sister. She's a bit younger than him since he was 10 when she was born. Elissa was 13 when Eliot and I got married back in 2012. (She had just celebrated her bat mitzvah a few weeks earlier.) Elissa was was only nine when Eliot and I started dating so I still think of her as the little girl that I first met. She was like the little sister that I always wanted and she's grown into an incredible young woman. Eliot and I have been blessed to spend a lot of time with her through the years. Elissa has come to visit us for a few weeks of Camp Cady while she was in high school. We also enjoyed having her near us when she attended the University of New England about 30 minutes away. Right now, she's working as a zookeeper at a zoo in San Jose, CA so we don't see her too often. But Eliot and I are both so proud of her for following her dreams. And we enjoy every time we get to see her!
Ok, so technically Sara and Elissa aren't "Katies", they're "Cadys" but they sound close enough. Our wedding planner and invitation designer thought it was kind of funny. I joked that we were just trying to confuse everyone. Thankfully, it didn't end up being as confusing as I was expecting it to be. But it made a fun conversational point!
I'm so grateful to these five wonderful women for standing with Eliot and me on our wedding day. Thanks for helping to make it a memorable day ladies!!! °o°
